Rationale and overview

Borehole image data has been collected for decades, but full interpretation has previously required a variety of software tools and consequently valuable project time was spent changing data formats, re-loading and validating information. In an already complex field, these enforced procedures resulted in low efficiency work practices and introduced the possibility of erroneous or inconsistent datasets. The Attitude application was created to provide a single environment in which all the borehole data from multiple wells could be interpreted through visualisation and statistical analysis tools.

Developed over several years by Task Geomodelling and supplied to the Task Geoscience consultancy, Attitude has dramatically increased the efficiency and scope of studies carried out on behalf of clients in the oil & gas industry. Provision of the Attitude Viewer software application to Task clients, with its customisable and retrievable case views, permits rapid sharing of concepts and key data between teams.

Attitude has been created to provide the most flexible possible approach to data manipulation. Dealing effortlessly with single wells, the software comes into its own in multi-well studies. The key view from which the entire project is controlled (right) allows individual wells and pick data sets to be activated. Simple clicks of the mouse allow filtering of data by feature type, stratigraphical interval, depth and quality. As all the data are linked, immediate updates are provided to the various views through which the data are displayed. The environment is completely customisable according to user needs, with individual windows allowing easy manipulation of size and position across multiple monitors. Subsets of the data and window layouts can be saved for later retrieval, dramatically improving workflow efficiency.
